A delegation of the Moldovan government has had a meeting with World Bank President Robert B. Zoellick

The World Bank country manager for Moldova, Melanie Marlett was also in attendance.

Filat thanked the World Bank for its constant support offered to Moldova, pointing out the results achieved in the economic sector and in the fight against poverty due to the World Bank's project in Moldova.

The prime minister presented the government's priorities for 2010 and said that ensuring good administration, demonopolizing and liberalizing Moldova's economy are among the government's immediate actions.

Filat asked for the World Bank's assistance to identify solutions to cover the difference in energy tariffs that have been recently increased. He noted that less well-off Moldovans are to benefit from assistance in this respect.

Robert B. Zoellick said that the World Bank will continue to back Moldova's development through its assistance, and added that it will back the government's efforts to reform the public administration sector.

The sides touched upon the sectors needing the World Bank's assistance, such as Information and Communication Technologies.

The government delegation also asked for Moldova's inclusion in the Government Transformation Initiative and for assistance to organize the Consultative Working Group due in March in Brussels.
